Why This Matters:
Microplastics — tiny particles under 5 mm in size — are now found in our food, water, air, and even human placentas.
Studies link them to:
- Hormone disruption
- Immune system stress
- Inflammation
- Potential long-term developmental and fertility issues
While we can’t avoid them entirely (yet), we can dramatically reduce our exposure and help the body flush them out.
🏡 Step 1: Remove Microplastics from Your Home

1️⃣ Swap Plastic for Safer Materials
- Food Storage: Use glass jars, stainless steel containers, or beeswax wraps/silicone reusable bags instead of plastic wrap/bags.
- Water Bottles: Stainless steel or glass only — avoid “BPA-free” plastic, which may contain other harmful chemicals.
- Kitchen Tools: Wooden/Silicone spoons, bamboo/acaia wood/stainless steel cutting boards, stainless steel strainers instead of plastic versions.
2️⃣ Upgrade Your Water Filtration
- Most basic filters (like Brita) don’t remove microplastics.
- Look for filters tested to remove particles down to 0.1 microns (e.g., Berkey with added PF-2 filters, reverse osmosis systems, Distillation Machines, Lifestraw Home).
3️⃣ Reduce Synthetic Clothing
- Polyester, nylon, rayon, and acrylic fabrics shed microfibers in the wash.
- Choose organic cotton, linen, hemp, or wool.
- Wash synthetics less often, and use a microfiber-catching bag (Guppyfriend) or filter (Filtrol) to trap fibers.
4️⃣ Improve Air Quality
- Microplastics are in household dust — vacuum with a HEPA filter weekly.
- Dust with damp microfiber cloths instead of feather dusters.
- Open windows daily for fresh air exchange (unless air quality is poor).
- Include Air Purifying House Plants in your home 👇🏻
- Use Air Filters like Dyson, Molecule & other effective brands!

5️⃣ Ditch Single-Use Plastics
- Avoid plastic cutlery, straws, and takeout containers.
- Bring your own reusable set for eating on-the-go.
🥗 Step 2: Remove Microplastics from Your Diet
6️⃣ Eat Fresh & Unpackaged When Possible
- Avoid overly packaged, processed foods.
- Shop farmer’s markets or bulk bins using cloth/paper bags.
7️⃣ Avoid Heating Food in Plastic
- If there one thing you can do, this would be my #1 recommendation. Its easy to do, costs you nothing & will help make a big impact on plastic reduction…
- Heat accelerates leaching — always reheat in glass or ceramic.
- Store leftovers in non-plastic containers before reheating.
8️⃣ Choose Cleaner Seafood
- Shellfish and small fish often have higher microplastic content.
- Choose wild-caught options lower on the food chain (sardines, wild salmon) and eat seafood in moderation.
9️⃣ Filter Your Cooking Water
- Even if you have a drinking water filter, ensure your cooking water is filtered — especially for soups, grains, and baby formula.
💆🏻♀️ Step 3: Support Your Body’s Natural Detox Pathways
(Note: This is for general wellness, not medical treatment.)
🔄 Daily Detox Habits
- Hydration: Drink plenty of filtered water to help flush particles through your system.
- Fiber-Rich Foods: Chia seeds, flax seeds, leafy greens — fiber helps bind and move out toxins.
- Sweating: Sauna sessions, exercise, or hot baths help mobilize and excrete toxins through skin.
🌱 Nutrients for Detox Support
- Chlorella & Spirulina: Plant-based binders shown to help capture pollutants.
- Cilantro & Parsley: Natural chelators for heavy metals and possible microplastic binding.
- Cruciferous Vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts — support liver detox.
- Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries
🛁 Skin & Lymph Support
- Dry brushing to stimulate lymphatic flow.
- Epsom salt detox baths to aid in relaxation and circulation
- Castor Oil detox packs
- Lymphatic Drainage Machine
